Single Tooth Implant Restoration in Malta, NY
Replace a single missing tooth with a restoration that looks, feels, and functions like your natural tooth — without affecting the healthy teeth around it.
Replacing One Tooth — Without Compromising the Others
A single missing tooth affects a lot — how you chew, how you smile, and how you feel about opening your mouth in a room full of people.
An implant-supported crown restores all of that.
Not a removable partial.
Not a bridge that requires altering the teeth next to it.
A freestanding, permanent tooth that you brush, floss, and don’t have to think about.
Here’s how it works:
- Dr. Cocozzo starts with a consultation — evaluating your bone, your bite, and your options to make sure an implant is the right path for you.
- If it is, she refers you to a specialist she knows personally and trusts completely to place the implant.
- The implant then needs time to heal and integrate with the jawbone — typically about six to eight weeks.
- Once it’s ready, you come back to Cocozzo Family Dentistry.
- Dr. Cocozzo completes the restoration in two appointments — placing the abutment (the foundation) and then the crown, which is the tooth you see. Most patients don’t even need numbing for this part.
- When you leave, there are no restrictions. You can eat normally, go about your day, and move on without thinking about it.
And unlike a natural tooth, the implant itself can’t get a cavity.
How does single tooth implant restoration work?
It’s a two-phase process: placement, then restoration. First, a specialist Dr. Cocozzo refers you to places the implant in the jawbone. The implant then heals and integrates with the bone over about six to eight weeks.
Once it’s ready, you return to Cocozzo Family Dentistry for two appointments — one to place the abutment (the foundation), and one to seat the crown. Most patients are in and out quickly and don’t need numbing for this phase.
Why not just get a bridge instead?
A bridge works — but it affects the teeth next to it. A traditional bridge requires shaping down the healthy teeth on either side of the gap to support the restoration.
An implant is freestanding, so the surrounding teeth are left completely untouched. For patients with healthy adjacent teeth, an implant is often the better long-term option — but Dr. Cocozzo will walk you through both and let you decide.
What happens if I’ve been missing a tooth for a long time?
It’s still possible — but timing can affect the process. Over time, bone loss can occur where the tooth is missing, which may impact implant placement. The specialist will evaluate your bone and determine whether a bone graft is needed first.
This doesn’t prevent treatment for most patients — it just adds an extra step. In general, the sooner you address a missing tooth, the simpler the process.
Can I live normally while the implant is healing?
Yes — most people go about their normal routine. In many cases, Dr. Cocozzo can place a temporary so you’re not walking around with a visible gap. Patients continue working, traveling, and living their lives during this phase. The healing period is typically much easier than people expect.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does getting the crown placed hurt?
Almost never. One in roughly 250 patients needs any Novocaine for the restoration appointments — Dr. Cocozzo’s words, not a number she invented. You may feel pressure, but not pain. It’s one of the more comfortable procedures she does. How do I take care of an implant crown?
Exactly like a natural tooth — brush, floss, and come in for regular cleanings. The implant itself cannot get a cavity. The crown is built to last. If you keep the surrounding gum tissue healthy, the restoration can last for decades.I don’t have a specialist. Can Dr. Cocozzo refer me?
Yes. If you’re starting from scratch, Dr. Cocozzo will refer you to a specialist she knows and trusts — the same people she’d send her own family to. She stays in the loop throughout the process so you always know what’s coming next.
