Dental Cleanings & Checkups in Malta, NY
Cleanings and exams that go beyond the surface — with oral cancer screenings at every visit – from a team that knows your history and tracks your health.
Dental Therapy Beyond Routine Cleanings
Every reserved appointment with your licensed hygienist begins at Cocozzo Family Dentistry begins before you even sit in the chair.
Your hygienist has already reviewed your chart — what happened at your last visit, what was flagged, what’s changed in your health history, and what to look for today.
By the time you’re here, nothing feels rushed or overlooked.
Our intraoral camera allows you to see exactly what Dr. Cocozzo is seeing. No guesswork, no confusion — just a clear view of what’s going on in your mouth.
We also use preventive treatments designed to stop early cavities from forming between teeth — before they ever become something that needs a filling.
It’s all part of staying ahead of problems, not just reacting to them.
What happens at a routine dental cleaning?
Your visit includes a thorough cleaning, a full dental exam, and an oral cancer screening. Your hygienist will remove plaque and tartar, clean and polish your teeth, and take any necessary dental images. They’ll also measure around each tooth to monitor your gum health over time.
Dr. Cocozzo will then complete your exam, review your dental images, and walk you through anything she sees before discussing next steps.
How often should I get a dental cleaning?
For most patients, twice a year is a good starting point — but it’s not a one-size-fits-all schedule.
Your care here isn’t based on a template or a fixed timeline. Because we’re not limited by insurance-driven schedules, your visits are based on what your health actually needs — not a preset timeline. If you’re managing gum disease, have a history of cavities, or need closer monitoring, more frequent visits may be recommended.
Is an oral cancer screening included?
Yes — it’s included as part of every exam. It’s quick, non-invasive, and an important part of monitoring your overall health — not just your teeth.
Does insurance cover dental cleanings?
Most dental insurance plans cover two cleanings per year.
As an unrestricted dentist in regards to dental benefit plans, payment is due at the time of service and we submit your claim on your behalf. Tina will walk you through your coverage so you know exactly what to expect.

It’s common, but it’s not considered normal. Bleeding gums are often an early sign of inflammation, which is very treatable when caught early. Mention it at your visit and we’ll take a closer look. Learn about gum disease treatment.
What if Dr. Cocozzo finds something during my exam?
